The idea and the name of the “scattered” hotel originated in the 1980's in Italy. The idea emerged from the need to revive small, old, partly abandoned rural settlements, many of which kept visible traces of cultural heritage in themselves. The basic step was to help the numerically impoverished settlements to help with common presentation, development of ideas, promotion, sale and reception of guests. So first, there were joint receptions, on-call duties, then promotion and all other functions. The idea of scattered hotels in Italy is very developed and has become a recognizable brand in the tourism market. Today operate about 40 scattered hotels in 13 Italian regions, which are assembled in an association that supports all activities and plans and the development of this concept. Such an idea that has the power to promote responsible local development through tourism has also been supported by the United Nations as a great model of local responsible sustainable development.
